Carnatic Talam Atlas
Free forever carnatic talam app
Hybrid-ready rhythm companion
Explore the complete suladi sapta tala system (35 varieties) with every jati. Carnatic rhythm includes many more tala frameworks (often referred to as 108 talas, plus practical, folk, and experimental usages), so these 35 are not all Carnatic talas. They are the 35 varieties of the Suladi Sapta Tala system.

Reference Sa: 261.63 Hz
Mode: Carnatic swara tuning (Sa-based), not keyboard tuning.
This is the swara your current voice/instrument is closest to (Sa, Ri, Ga, etc.).
Sa is your base note. Once Sa is fixed, all other swaras are measured from it.
Ratio is how far a swara is from Sa. Example: ratio 3/2 means that swara vibrates 1.5x Sa.
Cents show tuning error. + means sharp (higher), - means flat (lower).
Green is closer to correct shruti. Red means too high. Blue means too low.
Hold one swara steady and aim for cents close to 0. Near zero means better alignment.
Filter or tap a tala card to load it into the player.
Angas define how each tala is built. Suladi Sapta Talas use L, D, A, but other angas exist in older or rare talas.
Variable length based on jati: 3, 4, 5, 7, or 9 aksharas.
Two aksharas. Usually a clap + wave.
One akshara. Often a single clap.
Eight aksharas. Appears in older tala systems.
Twelve aksharas. Used in rare, extended talas.
Sixteen aksharas. Mostly historical usage.
